Trichy (TN), Feb 18 : Tamil leader V. Gopalswamy, popularly known as Vaiko, came down heavily on the Central Government allegedly supporting the Sri Lankan offensive on Tamil rebels in the island nation.

Trichy (TN), Aug 2 : Hundreds of farmers gathered at the bank of a Cauvery River today for a ritualistic prayer on the occasion of ''Aadiperukku''.

''Aadiperukku'' is an annual ritual peculiar to the Cauvery Delta -- the rice growing belt -- in Tamil Nadu, celebrating the rising of the river, which is expected on the 18th day of the solar month, Aadi corresponding to August 2 or August 3.

Women in large numbers take part in this festival, said to honour the bountiful river. They take a dip in the river, tie a holy thread on the neck and apply vermilion on the forehead of each other.

Trichy (Tamil Nadu), Feb 23: A German girl of Indian origin renewed her acquaintance with her beloved elephant Shanti in the Thiruvanaikaval or Jambukeswara Temple in Trichy, Tamil Nadu.

Seven-year-old Pooja, while on a visit to the Mudhumalai National Park in Ooty four year ago befriended Shanti.

Thereafter, Pooja left for Germany but kept telling her father that she missed her favourite jumbo. Her father then accompanied her to India so that she could meet Shanti.

Pooja said she liked feeding the elephants banana, tomatoes, oranges and apples for elephants.
