J-K govt. introduces biodegradable bags to reduce pollution levelSrinagar, Apr 24: The Jammu and Kashmir horticulture department has introduced biodegradable bags for farmers in the Kashmir Valley to reduce pollution levels.

The initiative aims at making the orchards and agricultural lands pollution free. The department is distributing these eco- friendly bags among farmers and orchard workers, so that they can realize its benefits and use them more often.

 Five people killed by bomb in Indian Kashmir Srinagar, Kashmir  - At least five people were killed in a roadside bombing carried out by Muslim separatist militants in India-administered Kashmir, police said Wednesday.

Eight were wounded in the blast that targeted a small bus Tuesday night in Bafliz village, about 45 kilometres east of the state's winter capital, Jammu, senior police official HD Jamwal said.

The victims included members of a village defence committee, an armed militia established by the state government to work in coordination with the security forces against militants.

Anti-polythene drive in Srinagar

Anti-polythene drive in SrinagarSrinagar, Apr. 20: The municipal corporation of Srinagar has launched a massive cleaning drive in association with the Trader''s Federation in a bid to make the city polythene free.

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has joined the anti-polythene drive, and started their campaign from world famous Dal Lake by collecting polythene bags from the lake.

"We have taken this initiative to clean the area surrounding Nehru Park and Dal Lake and other places so as to clean the environment," said Sunil Kumar, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel.

  Pre-conditions on talks with Pakistan dangerous: Mufti Sayeed  Srinagar, Apr 18 : Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Saturday termed pre-conditions for talks with Pakistan `dangerous'.

"The pre-conditions set by India that peace process would not be resumed till Pakistan hands over the Mumbai attack accused is dangerous for peace in the South Asia," Mufti told reporters here.

Separatists take to street against elections

 Separatists take to street against electionsSrinagar, Apr 18 : Separatists affiliated to the moderate faction of the All Party Hurriyat (Freedom) Conference took to the street here on Saturday to protest against the ongoing general elections.

They held up banners and raised anti-election slogans in the Lal Chowk area of Srinagar.

"The Election is not a solution to Kashmir problem. Our reason to protest is that those who are agitating for the Kashmir cause should neither participate nor fight elections," said Zaffar Akbar Bhatt, an executive member of the moderate faction.
