Red Cross seeks 1.27 million dollars for victims of Namibia floods Johannesburg - The Red Cross on Tuesday launched an emergency appeal for a little more than one million dollars for the victims of severe floods in the south-west African desert state of Namibia.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is seeking 1.44 million Swiss francs (1.27 million dollars) to fund its relief operation in the country, where at least 92 people have been killed in some of the worst floods in the country in years.

Earlier, police said the head of an organized crime unit and two of his subordinates were arrested on charges of theft, fraud and racketeering.

"They would take some of the consignment [of seized drugs] from the scene of the crime and sell it to drug lords," SAPA news agency quoted a spokeswoman for crime intelligence, Senior Superintendent Tummi Golding, as saying.
