French Navy rescues 100 migrants as boat drifts in Gulf of Aden Sana'a, Yemen - A French Navy ship rescued around 100 African migrants, mostly Somalis, on a drifting boat in the Gulf of Aden on Saturday, a Yemeni coastguard source said.

The source told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that the boat was 65 miles from the southern Yemeni port of Aden when it drifted after an engine failure.

A French frigate patrolling the area spotted the boat and rushed to its rescue.

South Korean convoy in Yemen escapes suicide attack unharmed Sana'a  - A suicide bomber blew himself up on a road leading to Yemen's Sanaa International Airport as a convoy of South Korean police investigators and diplomats passed by on Wednesday, police officials said.

The attack took place as the convoy was leaving al-Dailami military base. The bomber, who was killed in the attack, had been waiting outside the gate of the base.

Surviving South Korean tourists return home after blast kills four Sana'a, Yemen  - A group of South Korean tourists departed Sana'a on Monday to return to Seoul, including survivors of an apparent bomb attack that killed four of their fellow tourists and a Yemeni guide near a historical site in south-eastern Yemen on Sunday.

Nine women and three men departed on an Emirates flight at 10:00 am (0700 GMT) to Dubai, from where they will continue to Seoul.

Among the departing survivors were two wounded women dressed in hospital uniforms, one of them sitting in a wheelchair.

The 16 defendants - 11 Yemenis, four Syrians and a Yemeni with Saudi nationality - stood handcuffed behind bars dressed in blue prison uniforms.

Yemen mosque attacker executed by firing squad Sana'a, Yemen  - A man convicted of killing ten people in a shooting rampage outside a mosque in north-western Yemen last year was executed by a firing squad in his home city Wednesday, a security source said.

A police firing squad shot dead Abdullah Saleh al-Kohali, 27, in the central prison of Amran, some 70 kilometres north of the capital Sana'a, the source said.

He was executed after the verdict sentencing him to death was read out by a judge at the prison's courtyard, the source added.

Yemeni court sentences Pakistani man to death for drug-trafficking

Yemen-FlagSana'a, Yemen - A Yemeni state security court on Monday sentenced a Pakistani man to death and 15 others to 25 years in prison for smuggling drugs into the Arabian Peninsula country.

The court convicted the 16 men of smuggling around 10,000 kilograms of hashish into Yemen through the Arabian Sea.

The men were arrested in September after their boat was seized by Yemeni coast guard patrols about 50 miles off the south-eastern Yemeni port of Mukalla, prosecutors told the court.

Yemen's south-eastern coast is used by drug-traffickers from Iran and Pakistan as a gateway to oil-rich countries in the Gulf.
