Michael Clarke set to participate in Sydney-to-Gold Coast ocean race

Michael-ClarkeMelbourne, June 25 : Michael Clarke will make his competitive yachting debut in the Sydney-to-Gold Coast ocean race next month for charity.

The 33-year-old Australian cricketer will be a part of the Perpetual LOYAL crew in the Sydney-to-Gold Coast ocean race next month to raise money for medical equipment to assist seriously ill children, News. com. au reported.

Clarke, who will also be hosting a lunch to raise money for sick children, revealed that the endeavor is out of his "comfort zone" but he had decided to take it up as it is for a good cause. (ANI)

Australia sends troops to Iraq to protect Baghdad embassy

David-JohnstonMelbourne: Australia today said it has sent a small detachment of soldiers to Iraq to help bolster security at its embassy in Baghdad in the wake of the assault by Islamic militants in the country.

Defence Minister David Johnston said the defence liaison force is being deployed to protect embassy staff and evacuate them if necessary, not to help Iraqi forces battling militants who have seized large swathes of the country's north in the past two weeks.

He did not confirm how many personnel have been sent for security reasons.

Ken Ham, the founder of the Creation Museum in Kentucky, will be unveiling a new exhibit of a 30-foot-long skeleton of an Allosaurus, News. com. au reported.

The fossil resembles a Tyrannosaurus rex and is the centrepiece of a new exhibit called "Facing the Allosaurus".

spinning-starMelbourne, May 7 : Using the ‘empty’ space between stars and galaxies that is made up of sparsely spread charged particles as a giant lens, researchers have made a measurement of a distant rotating neutron star that is believed to be the most precise till now.

The new measurement is one million times more precise than the previous world’s best.

Neutron stars were particularly interesting objects to study, as some of them - called pulsars - gave off pulsed radio waves whose beams swept across telescopes at regular intervals.

"The study revealed the risk of pancreatic cancer was greatest after the diagnosis of diabetes but remained elevated long after the diagnosis,” said Mehrdad Nikfarjam, liver, pancreas and biliary specialist at the University of Melbourne.

“The presence of diabetes remains a modest risk factor for the development of a cancer later in life," he said.
