Hand grenade wounds one person in northern Lebanon

Beirut - At least one person was wounded Thursday by a hand grenade in the northern city of Tripoli, raising fears an already tense situation might escalate.

The grenade was thrown in the Jabal Mohsen area where 23 people were killed in June and July in battles between Sunni supporters of the government and their Damascus-backed rivals from the Alawite community.

Tensions between the two communities eased in the past few weeks after both sides signed a reconciliation accord and the army deployed in the area.

But fears are increasing that the situation could escalate again after a car bomb targeting the army on Monday left at least seven people dead, four of them soldiers, and more than 30 people injured.

Explosion kills five, injures 30 in northern Lebanon

Beirut - At least five people were killed and 30 wounded on Monday in a bomb blast targeting a military bus on the outskirts of the northern Lebanese port city of Tripoli, Lebanese security sources said. 

Hospital officials said three of those killed were soldiers. At least 30 people who sustained medium and serious injuries had been admitted, among them a 3-year-old boy. 

A Lebanese security source said the owner of car carrying the bomb. The source refused to reveal the name of the owner of the Renault. 

A police officer at the scene told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that the bomb went off at the southern entrance of the city as the mini-bus was heading towards the capital Beirut during morning rush-hour.

Omar Bakri Mohammad, the Muslim preacher of hate who now lives in Lebanon after being exiled from Britain, has a daughter who loves pole dancing and is willing to go topless if the venue is right.

According to The Sun, busty Yasmin Fostok, 27, leads a secret life after rebelling against her fanatical Muslim dad who rants against Western “depravity”.

She has performed in London pole dancing bars and gyrated half-naked in cages at club nights.

“I’m willing to go topless if the venue is right,” she was quoted as saying.

Yasmin, a party-loving girl, quit the family home in North London four years ago.

Lebanon's leaders agree to remove political slogans from capital

Lebanon, BeirutBeirut- Lebanon's Shiite House Speaker Nabih Berri and head of the ruling anti-Syrian majority Saad Hariri agreed on Thursday to remove all political insignia, starting with a three-day campaign throughout Beirut.

"All pictures representing rival political leaders and slogans will be removed from the Beirut streets in the coming three days," sources close to Hariri told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.

Hariri said after a meeting with Berri that "all efforts were under way to implement peace and security in the capital."
