Jaipur, Feb 21: Recession in the US and Europe has badly affected India''s carpet industry.

For the last few years Rajasthan''s carpet industry was growing at a red hot 15 percent every year, but global meltdown clipped it badly.

According to exporters, the industry is passing through its worst phase.

"Carpet being a kind of a luxury item was the first hit (by the economic meltdown) because people cannot live without the daily necessities but carpet is one thing they can do without," said Rajesh Jagetia, an exporter.

America and Europe, which are worse hit by recession, were the biggest buyers of Indian carpets. Now that demand has slashed.

Jaipur, Feb. 3 : Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday accused the neighbouring country (Pakistan) of spreading terror in the country but emphasized that Indians were strong enough to fight the menace.

While addressing a thanks-giving rally in Jaipur, the state capital of Rajasthan, where Congress returned to power during Assembly elections after trouncing Bharatiya Janata party, Sonia Gandhi said that people of India would never allow its enemies to succeed in their endeavor of spreading terror.

Jaipur, Jan 27 : Sport enthusiasts took part in zipping adventure sports started by a USA based company in Jaipur.

Lured by the buoyancy in the Indian tourism sector, the company Flying Fox started its new sport in Neemrana village of Alwar district of the state.

The first of its kind, the sport is called "Zip Tour" where one travels from one top to another top of the hills by sliding on a rope wire with the help of an elevator.

Before starting the tour, a small training session is held. Every participant is given a kit, which comprises safety belts and other equipment.

One of the leading literature events of the Indian sub-continent, the fourth DSC Jaipur Literature Festival kicked off in a grand style with the inauguration by the Governor of Rajasthan, S K Singh.

Since its beginning, the DSC Jaipur Literature Festival has been hosted by the Diggi Palace Hotel. In order to celebrate the festival opening, the whole palace was packed with an enthusiastic crowd.

Jaipur, Jan 21, : All India Congress Committee's General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday said that action against the rebels, who may harm prospects of the party during elections, should be taken before distribution of tickets.

Speaking at the first meeting of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) functionaries, MLAs, MPs since the formation of the Congress government in Rajasthan under Ashok Gehlot, remarked that one of the problems in the Congress was that those who work for the party and those who harm the party are getting the same treatment.

Jaipur/New Delhi, Jan 8 : Former Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat has rejected BJP president Rajnath Singh''s advice not to contest in forthcoming general elections.

Shekhawat also said that he is not in the race for prime ministership.

"The present situation is that I am not contesting for the post of Prime Minister. I clearly said I will fight elections if my health permits," said Shekhawat.
