Bomb kills 12 children in north-western Pakistan Islamabad  - A homemade bomb killed 12 children and wounded three others in Pakistan's volatile north-western region, officials said on Sunday.

The explosive device resembling a football was picked up by the children Saturday as they were returning home from school in Luqman Banda village of Lower Dir district, a local police officer, Saeed Zaman, said.

"The bomb exploded as the children started playing with it in their house," according to Zaman.

A News Network International (NNI) news agency report said seven army trucks were stopped by armed Taliban at Qamabr, a small town of Mingora, the main city in the Swat Valley of North West Frontier Province.

Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said the militants feared that the security forces might launch fresh offensive.
