National rail strike continues after negotiations fail again

Once again, railway stations across the country were empty. Two of Budapest's three major stations had cancelled all morning departures. Passengers willing to take a chance on rail travel were warned to be prepared for significant delays or cancellations.

The ruling, which is still not legally binding because it has been appealed by the Hungarian Guard, came after a process that has dragged on for nearly a year.

The organization, founded in August 2007, has been accused of deliberately intimidating Roma communities with its marches against what it calls "gypsy crime."

Union leader Zoltan Kovacs, after a meeting on Tuesday with the management of airport operator Budapest Airport (BA), said that the employer had agreed to consider written compromise proposals from the unions.
