Ancient necropolis unearthed in Syria

SyriaDamascus (Syria), Dec 18 : A research team from Udine University in Italy has uncovered a vast, ancient necropolis near the Syrian oasis of Palmyra.

The team, headed by Daniele Morandi Bonacossi of Udine University, believes the burial site dates from the second half of the third millennium BC.

The necropolis comprises around least 30 large burial mounds near Palmyra, some 200km northeast of Damascus in Syria.

New archaeological discoveries enrich Syrian heritage

Damascus (Syria), Dec 8 : Archaeologists have announced the discovery of one stretch of the previous wall of Raqqa Palace in Syria, a few days after finding other things that enrich the country’s heritage.

Raqqa city is an old locality built by Alexander the Great in the Four Century (b. c.), but very few is preserved from that glorious period from which highlights Baghdad Door, the walls and Qasr al-Binaat Palace.

According to a report by Prensa Latina, a Latin American news agency, experts from a national mission said that after the wall fragment, they found a lion bronze image and lamps made of pottery, a metal ax, a bottle of crystal and a crystal’s collection.

In a report published Wednesday, the source stressed the importance of Clinton's presence to the resuscitation of the Israeli-Syrian peace talks, Ynet. news. com said.

The Syrian official also commended Clinton for her commitment to "render the U. S. a power for positive change" in the world by cooperating with the international community to solve global crises.

Arab League chief arrives in Damascus

Arab League Secretary-General Amr Mussa Damascus - Arab League chief Amr Mussa arrived in Damascus Saturday, where he is expected to discuss with Syrian officials a recent broadcast on Syrian TV where prisoners alleged terrorist ties to Lebanon, Lebanese media reported.

The November 6 broadcast showed prisoners confessing to a September bomb blast in Damascus and claiming links exist between the Lebanese parliamentary majority leader and Fatah al-Islam, a militant, Lebanon-based group with ties to al-Qaeda.

The Arab League agreed Thursday to review the circumstances surrounding those confessions.

Syria foreign minister: Israel bombs source of uranium traces

Syria MapDamascus - Syria's foreign minister said uranium traces found at an alleged nulcear facility by the United Nations nuclear watchdog may have been left by Israeli warplanes that attacked the site.

"No one has ever asked himself what kind of Israeli bombs had hit the site, and what they contained," the Syrian minister said, stating that Israel had bombs containing depleted uranium, such as used by the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Walid al-Moallem described as politically motivated the news leaks about the traces found at the site which was bombed by Israel in September 2007.

Iraqi Foreign Minister: Iraq will not be a base for raids on Syria

Syria & IraqDamascus - Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari told his Syrian counterpart Wednesday that Iraq will not be a base for raids on Syria and will soon appoint an Iraqi envoy to Syria.

Zebari, who arrived in Damascus on Tuesday, met with Syrian foreign minister Walid al-Muallem. Zebari delivered a letter from Nuri al-Maliki to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The letter added that the Iraqi government had not been aware of the US raid the Syrian village of Abu Kamal.
