SAARC declaration condemns terrorism

Colombo, August 3: The 15th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit concluded in Colombo on Sunday condemning terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Manmohan Singh urges SAARC nations to stand united against terrorism

Colombo, Aug 2 : India Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan SinghPrime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today urged all eight SAARC nations to stand united against terrorism.

Terming the recent attack on the Indian Embassy in Kabul and serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad as gruesome reminders of barbaric acts of terrorists, Dr. Singh told the opening session of the 15th SAARC Summit that terrorism is the ''single major threat'' to the stability of South Asia.

The region cannot afford to lose the battle against the ideologies of hatred and fanatism, he added.

Hamid Karzai attacks Pakistan on terror links at SAARC Summit

Colombo, Aug 2 :Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai Afghan President Hamid Karzai today attacked Pakistan for providing safe sanctuary to terrorists.

"It is because of the safe havens and sanctuary which terrorists are getting in Pakistan, the country lost their great leader Benazir Bhutto," he claimed.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007, after departing a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) rally in Rawalpindi, two weeks before the scheduled general election of 2008 where she was a leading opposition candidate.

India to work with NSG for unconditional exemption: Shiv Shankar Menon

South Asian heads of state meet in Colombo for regional summit

Colombo - The heads of state of eight South Asian nations opened a two day regional summit in the Sri Lanka capital of Colombo on Saturday where issues ranging from environment to poverty are being discussed.

The event is being held under tight security after the government rejecting a truce declared by the Tamil rebels of the Liberation of Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa opening the event called for regional co-operation in combating terrorism and stability in the region.

"There are not good terrorists and bad terrorists. We need to eliminate terrorism," Rajapaksa said.

South Asian nations agree on anti-terrorism assistance Colombo  - Eight South Asian nations Thursday agreed on introducing terrorism as one of the subjects in an agreement on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters among the countries, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said.

The foreign ministers or their representatives who met during the ministerial meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Co- operation (SAARC) agreed on the text of the agreement for final approval by the countries' heads of state over the weekend.
