Bihar CM demands apology from Goa Minister on Bihari remark

Nitish KumarPatna, August 20 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday demanded an apology from a Goa Minister for his remark that there will be more beggars in the coastal state if trains linking it to Patna are introduced.

Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik on Tuesday made the remark, which triggered an outrage in Bihar.

Nitish said the remark had hurt the sentiments of the people of Bihar.

Bihar on red alert following breach of Kosi barragePatna, Aug 19 : Following a breach in the Kosi barrage in Nepal, a red alert has been sounded in Supaul, Madhepura and Araria districts of Bihar. 

A 12 km stream of the Kosi barrage in Nepal territory has developed breach at two places. The barrage is maintained by the Bihar Government’s Water Resources Development Department in Biratnagar. Cooperation has been sought from Nepal.

Five killed in road mishap in Bihar

BiharMunger (Bihar), Aug 18: Five pilgrims were killed and nine others injured when the jeep in which they were travelling collided head-on with a bus in Bihar's Munger district today.

The mishap occurred near Bochahi village when they were return from Deoghar after performing 'jalabhishek' of Lord Shiva at the famous Baidyanath Dham temple on the last day of Shravan on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Umesh Mandal, Pravin Singh, Manoj Mandal, Ashok Mandal and Dhanush Tanti.

Nine killed, 16 injured as bus plunges into Bihar canalPatna, Aug. 15 : Nine people including four pilgrims and a woman were killed and 16 others injured when a bus plunged into a canal in Bihar''s Lakhisarai district on Friday.

The accident took place when the sari of a woman sitting on the engine cover caught fire.

The driver, who tried to extinguish the blaze as the vehicle was still moving, lost control and the bus plummeted into the canal.

The incident occurred near Jhulauna village when the bus was returning from Sikandra to Lakhisarai, Superintendent of Police S P Shukla said.
