Prime Minister reviews relief and rehabilitation work in flood hit Bihar

Bihar, Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Sept 12 : Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today reviewed the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the Flood hit Bihar at a high level meeting here.

Meanwhile Bihar has demanded over 8900 crore rupees for rehabilitation, construction and repair of the infrastructure damaged in the floods.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who met the Prime Minister on Friday also wanted him to take up with the Nepalese Prime Minister, Pushpa Dahal Prachanda the outstanding issue of Kosi river to prevent recurrence of devastation. Prachanda is coming to India on Sunday.

Bihar intensifies flood rescue operations

Bihar FloodPatna, Sept 12 : In a bid to speed up flood rescue operations, the police department of Bihar has ordered production of 1000 life saving jackets for its personnel engaged in rescuing marooned and flood affected people.

Although the fury of River Kosi has ebbed, the police personnel, deputed to undertake rescue operations have been facing hurdles in conducting rescue operations because of non-availability of adequate number of life saving jackets.

Till now 500 jackets have been made and 500 more are in the pipeline.

Oil companies send relief to flood hit Bihar

BiharNew Delhi, Sept 12 : Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora today flagged off relief material contributed by the oil companies for flood-hit Bihar.

The relief material includes fuels like kerosene, free LPG for community kitchens in relief camps, solar lanterns, blankets, candles, matchboxes, ORS (Oral Re-Hydration Solutions), milk powder and cooking utensils.

Deora said his ministry is in touch with people in flood affected areas and promised more relief, if needed.

Flood victims continue to languish along roadside in Bihar

Saharsa (Bihar), Sept 12 Unaware of the numerous relief camps run by the State Government, scores of flood victims still continue to languish on roadside in Bihar.

Languishing under the sun and lacking food and other bare necessities, these people are struggling for existence, under the tents, in Saharsa district.

Every day is a new challenge for them, as they gamble with their lives living on the roadside, where their safety is a major concern.

Though officials pay them a visit, these flood victims allege apathy on their part.
