Bhubaneswar, Oct. 8 : Orissa Police on Wednesday confirmed that they had arrested the prime accused in the alleged rape of a young nun during the anti-Christian attacks in Kandhamal District.

Somanath Pradhan of Rajaghar village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Baliguda police station in Kandhamal district, was arrested yesterday. State police officials said that so far five persons have been nabbed.

Bhubaneshwar, Oct 7 : Superior-General of the Missionaries of Charity Sister Nirmala on Tuesday exhorted the Orissa government to continue with strong steps to restore peace in areas affected by violence against Christians.

Sister Nirmala called on Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneshwar today to apprise him of sentiment of the Missionaries of Charity about recent violence against the Christian community in Kandhamal District.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 4 : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday in a letter to Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata formally invited him to set up the “Nano” small car manufacturing unit in the state.

Patnaik asked Tata to utilise the company''s unused land at Gopalpur in Ganjam District and avail all facilities provided to investors under the Industrial Policy Resolution-2007.

Raikia/Bhubaneshwar, Sept 29 : A dead body was found floating in a river near Raikia region of Orissa on Monday, just two days after communal clashes in riot hit Kandhamal District of the State.

According to reports, the body is allegedly of a Christian man who had gone missing after the communal clashes, which broke out on Friday.

Though no fresh incidents of violence have been reported from the Kandhamal, situation continues to be tense and security forces have been deployed to restore peace in the area.

Bhubhaneswar, Sept 26 : The Centre on Friday rushed more para-military forces to riot-hit Kandhamal District of Orissa, where curfew was clamped in nine sensitive areas in the wake of fresh violence on Thursday.

Following a request from State Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, about 700 para-military force personnel were deployed in troubled areas of the district to strengthen security and prevent further flare up.

Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, Sept 26 : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has demanded more forces from the Central Government to control the situation in Kandhamal district.

"The administration is controlling the situation in Kandhamal district. Every effort is being made for law and order to be maintained. The Central Government has been asked for ten more companies of force in that area," said Patnaik here on Thursday after he reviewed the situation with officials.
