Bomb wounds Palestinian Fatah official in south Lebanon Beirut  - A bomb exploded Tuesday in a Palestinian refugee camp in south Lebanon, wounding an official of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party, Palestinian officials said.

Talal al-Ordoni, was wounded when a bomb exploded near his house in the Ain al-Hilweh camp, east of the southern port city of Sidon, the sources said.

A hospital official inside the camp said Ordoni was in moderate condition, with shrapnel wounds all over his body.

Israeli planes violate Lebanese airspace, Beirut says

Israel FlagBeirut - The Lebanese army said Thursday that Israel Air Force warplanes have violated Lebanon's airspace by flying over Beirut and elsewhere in the country.

"At least three enemy Israeli warplanes violated Lebanese airspace overnight and Thursday morning," the Lebanese army said. "The planes flew over the Mediterranean off the coastal city of sidon and over the capital and its suburbs."

It added that other sraeli warplanes flew over the southern town of Rmeish, then headed north to Beirut, the Chouf mountains, south- east of the capital, and Hermel in the eastern part of the country.

Firefighters in Lebanon bring Forest fires under control Beirut - Lebanese firefighters along with the help of UN troops positioned in southern Lebanon brought a large forest fire under control on Wednesday, a civil defence official said.

Flames swept near the summer resort town of Aley, east of Beirut, after breaking out overnight in the Bmikin mountainous region between Souk el-Gharb and Aley.

"We managed to put out the fire after we got the help of the Lebanese army, the United Nations Interim Forces in Southern Lebanon (UNIFIL) and Cypriot planes, " the official said.

Jund al-Sham commander escapes assassination in south Lebanon

Beirut - A member of the Sunni Fundamentalist group Jund al-Sham, Abu Ramez al-Sahmarani, escaped an assassination attempt at Ain el-Hilweh refugee camp in south Lebanon Monday, security sources said.

The unknown assailants fired machine guns toward his house in Ain al-Hilweh, east of the southern port city of Sidon, early in the day, but did not hit him.

On Sunday, three Palestinian militants were killed in a clash with the mainstream Fatah guerrilla group in Ain al-Hilweh.

The three were members of Islamist factions Usbat al Ansar and Jund al-Sham.

Among the dead were Shadeh Johar, a ranking Jund al-Sham official and Abdul Nasser Dawali.

Syrian foreign minister in Beirut to improve relations with Lebanon

Beirut - Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem, arriving in Beirut on Monday, extended an official invitation to Lebanese President Michel Suleiman to visit Damascus in an effort to improve relations between the two countries.

"The Lebanese and Syrian governments will have to exchange visits to work for the interest of their people," Suleiman said.

"President Suleiman will visit Syria as soon as possible and contacts between the two sides will help set a date for the visit," Moallem said after meeting Suleiman.
