Recycle or pay fine, says UK government

RecycleA piece of information, which came straight from the UK's Environment Secretary stated that recyclable items such as paper cards, food, garden waste and plastics would have to undergo recycling, decaying or burning.

It is believed that the black bins, which are currently in use in the UK, would no longer be in use and they would be replaced by recycling containers including slop buckets for food.

The local government association earlier said that if it has to put these measures in use, it would need to spend an extra £1.1 billion, and the government should be prepared for the same.

People failing to adhere to the rules would be slapped with hefty fines, which may sum up to thousands, said the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

However, this move faced an opposition as people were already subject to increased taxes. In view of this, a person from Defra said, "This is not about fines for householders - we cannot keep on sending waste to landfill, and it is important that councils work with communities to reduce waste, reuse it where possible, and recycle more."
