Rebel Player Imran Nazir keen to play T-20 World Cup for Pakistan
Pakistan's opening batsman Imran Nazir has requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to allow the players linked with the rebel Indian cricket League to represent the country in the ICC T20 World Cup next month.
Speaking with the media persons, Nazir said, "There is nothing bigger for us than playing for Pakistan. We joined the ICL two years ago because the existing circumstances then forced us to do this."
It may be recalled that Nazir was one of the most successful batsman in the T-20 World Cup in South Africa.
The right handed batsman also said that PCB Chairman needed to consider the ICL players on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.
"I would appeal to him not to penalize us drastically with heavy fines or a ban because we want to play in the T20 World Cup and win it for our country", added the hard hitter.
Meanwhile, according to some media reports PCB is pressing some of the rebel players to immediately snap ties with the unofficial Indian Cricket League (ICL). The Board wants these players to resign immediately from the ICL to be considered for the Twenty20 World Cup.
Giving this information, an insider said, "Butt has also called for a special meeting of the governing council to get approval to include the three players in the Twenty20 squad."
However, the source also made it clear that Mohammad Yousuf was not under consideration for the Twenty20 World Cup. Yousuf is the only Pakistani player to have resigned from the ICL so far.
