Ramesh Kumar creates history for India at World Wrestling
Yet another Indian wrestler has made it big.
Ramesh Kumar has broken a long standing jinx after winning the bronze medal in the 74kg category at the World Wrestling Championship in Herning, Denmark on Wednesday.
After a poor first period, the 27-year-old wrestler defeated Alexandr on technical points after the repechage round ended with both the wrestlers tied at the score of 7-7 On Wednesday night.
The Uttar Pradesh wrestler had earlier defeated Dustin Schalatter of the US 3-2, Michael Grundy of the UK 4-2. In the quarter finals, Ramesh trounced Bulagarian wrestler Kiri Terziev 7-4.
However, the Indian grappler lost to Chamsulvarayev of Azerbaizan 0-3 in the semi-final match.
Earlier, Olympic bronze medalist Sushil Kumar closely missed out on a medal when he lost to world number two Rasul Djukaev of Russia.
Notably, it's country's first medal after 32 years at the World Wrestling Championship.
In 1967, Vishambhar Singh had won a medal at the World Wrestling Championship for India.
