Melbourne, Dec 21: Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has said that she would welcome Indian born doctor Mohamed Haneef back to work in the state's health system, after he won his latest court battle to return and work in Australia.

Bligh said that she was pleased to learn of the court's decision.

"The decision by the courts today in relation to Dr Haneef's visa adds... weight to concerns that all may not have been as it should have been in the dealings the Commonwealth Government had with Dr Haneef, " she added.

Bligh said Dr Haneef was considered a competent doctor in his time with the Queensland Health department.

However, as his registration in Queensland lapsed in September, Bligh said it needs to be renewed and other visa requirements met, before the Indian doctor could return to work.

"If Dr Haneef satisfied the visa requirements and the registration requirements, I would be very pleased to have him, and any other suitably qualified medical practitioners, in our hospitals, " The Australian quoted Bligh, as saying.

"We have a lot of pressure on our hospitals. We want to see qualified doctors working in them as soon as possible, " she said.

The full bench of the Federal Court, sitting in Melbourne, today dismissed an appeal lodged by the Australian Government lawyers against a judge's decision to reinstate Dr Haneef's visa.

Dr Haneef, a registrar at the Gold Coast Hospital, was arrested and charged in July in connection with the Glasgow terror attacks and later deported by the Howard Government, despite the charges being dropped for lack of evidence.

Dr Haneef was arrested at Brisbane Airport on July 2, shortly after the failed UK terrorist plot, but a charge of providing support to terrorism was dropped later.

The charges were dropped less than two weeks later after Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions announced there was no reasonable prospect of a conviction.

Dr Haneef has spent most of the past five months at his home in Bangalore, but Russo has repeatedly said that he wants to return to work on the Gold Coast.
