London, Jan 13: The man, whom Princess Diana described as "Mr Wonderful" and “the greatest love of her life,” has broken his silence for the first time, admitting that he’s still “haunted by the Princess’ memory.”

Di's former lover and heart specialist Dr. Hasnat Khan confessed that he has still not recovered from the princess’ death, and feels like screaming at times.

He said that though he had been asked to testify at the Diana inquest, he is

not willing to do so unless he is obliged to.

Khan said that he was speaking publicly because of speculation that he would attend the inquest to give evidence.

However, he confessed that events 10 years ago still conquered his thoughts.

"Sometimes I feel like screaming. There have been very bad times. I have moved on, but it keeps coming back,” the Scotsman quoted him, as saying.

The 48-year-old, who recently separated from his 29-year-old wife, declined to reveal the circumstances that led to his split with Diana, whom he first met in 1995.

But Khan did pay homage to Diana, by discussing the respect in which he holds the late princess, and criticising her memorial fountain in the process.

"Creating a fountain is not how you should remember a great person. You put great people up as high as possible. Look at Nelson," he said.

On the issue of the ongoing inquest in London, Khan said he had received a letter suggesting that the coroner may want him to testify, but it is unlikely that he will attend.

"My lawyers advised me I do not have to attend. If that's their advice, I won't go. But if I find I have to go according to the law, I will go,” he said.

Diana, who started dating Khan in 1995, two years before her death, fell head over heels in love with him, describing him as the "love of her life.” (ANI)
