President Yushchenko assures Hungary of gas supply via Ukraine
Budapest - Ukraine would never cut the flow of Russian gas into Hungary or other European markets, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said on Tuesday during an official visit to Hungary. Yushchenko was speaking after a meeting with his Hungarian counterpart Laszlo Solyom, at which they signed agreements to cooperate in foreign affairs and agriculture.
The Ukrainian president had planned to meet Solyom in January, but the visit was cancelled amid a dispute between Ukraine and Russia over gas pricing that led to serious shortages in several Central and Eastern European countries.
Yushchenko is due to meet Hungary's new Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai on Wednesday, the second day of his two-day visit. (dpa)
