Prachanda tables headquarter panel proposal

Kathmandu, Jan 21: Nepal Prime Minister and Maoist Chairman Prachanda has tabled a proposal related to distribution of party responsibilities at the central and local levels as well as at the party organisational departments in the Central Committee (CC) meeting.

According to Kantipur, Prachanda has proposed formation of a five-member headquarter committee under his convenorship. He also proposed the names of senior leaders, Baburam Bhattarai, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Ram Bahadur Thapa and Mohan Baidya to take up responsibilities for the government, the parliament, army and the street respectively as members of the HQ Committee.

Prachnada has proposed the names of party leaders as chiefs of four development organisational committees including Lilamani Pokhrel, Barsa Man Pun, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Netra Bikram Chand for Eastern, Central, Western and Mid and Far western regions respectively.

Maoist spokesman Dinanath Sharma said the Central Committee started deliberations on the proposal. The agendas were submitted after thorough discussion at the
15-member central secretariat meeting and a 45-member politburo meeting held on Tuesday.

The secretariat meeting on Monday discussed expansion of the central committee to 200 from the present 175, keeping in mind that majority of leaders were at the forefront during the insurgency. (ANI)
