Tsunami warning issued for Fiji, SamoaWashington - The US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on Thursday issued a tsunami warning for Tonga, Samoa and Fiji among other Pacific islands.

The warning came after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake was reported 10 kilometres deep in the Tonga islands region.

"Sea level readings confirm that a tsunami was generated. This tsunami may have been destructive along coastlines of the region near the earthquake epicentre," a NOAA statement said, alerting authorities in the region.

Nine paintings found after being stolen from Cairo museumCairo  - Nine paintings stolen ten days ago from an Egyptian museum, were found near the scene of the crime, the Egyptian Ministry of Culture said on Thursday.

"Security authorities informed me that they found the paintings near the palace after the police received an anonymous phone call telling them where the paintings were," Egypt's Minister of Culture Farouq Hosni said.

The paintings were stolen from Mohammed Ali Pasha's palace, a historical building that houses major art works.

The identity of the thieves remains unknown.

A message written on cardboard had been left by the bodies, with a warning to some "Fernando Hernandez, El Garras" and "those who do not want to cooperate."

Union officials said that more than 350,000 people demonstrated in Paris, while 300,000 protested in the southern port city of Marseille.
