PM supports creation of National Council for Human Resource in Health (NCHRH)
Health ministry has demanded for the creation of National Council for Human Resource in Health (NCHRH) as medical education does not come under NCHER (National Council for Higher Education and Research).
The official stated that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has supported health ministry for creating NCHRH for controlling the medical education in the country.
Sources also said that National Council for Higher Education and Research (NCHER) comes under the human resource development ministry.
The HRD ministry gives an option of National Council for Human Resource in Health (NCHRH) as a sample of the NCHER after the dissolution of Medical Council of India (MCI) on May 15.
Ketan Desai, MCI president was arrested by CBI on the accusation of taking bribe to give recognition to a medical college in Punjab though it did not meet the necessary required MCI norms.
As a consequence of this incidence health ministry has demanded for the establishment of a separate governing body for medical education.
According to officials it is not sensible to eliminate medical education from the health ministry and a request has been sent to the PM for creating NCHRH.
The HRD ministry confirms that establishment of NCHRH for medical education will provide transparency.
