Pinterest will launch new ‘buy’ button
It has been announced by Pinterest, the visual bookmarking site that it is looking forward to launch the 'buyable pin'; it's a feature that would convert some of the service's 50 billion pins into a shopping catalog. These pins are images posted by users.
It is indicated by a blue price tag below a pin that users can purchase the item directly through Pinterest. A user can have different views of a product; color of the product could be selected and Apple Pay or a credit card could be used for making payment.
It was expected since long that such a change will be made. With this, a big demand of Pinterest users has also been fulfilled. The users generally browse the service looking for products; however they need to do more search to purchase them. Before this change, they would be redirected to website of the retailer and they sometimes look for the item again only to find the unavailability of the product.
Pinterest co-founder and chief executive Ben Silbermann announced regarding 'buyable pins' at a San Francisco event at the company's headquarters. According to him, "Pinterest is already designed to work like a catalogue, so we wanted to find a way to weave buyable pins into the pages people already know. Buyable pins are a simple and secure way to buy the products you love right from inside Pinterest".
He said that people want to purchase things on Pinterest. According to a survey conducted by Pinterest and MillwardBrown earlier this year, nearly 52% of around 1,500 active Pinterest users surveyed admitted that the site helped them find items.
