Pink Paper Links sold as a part of Breast Cancer Awareness Project

The Health Science Team members from the St. Charles Parish Satellite Center in Luling have been putting in efforts to aware people about breast cancer and working on a Breast Cancer Awareness Project. The annual project is initiated with a motive to educate the community and raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.

Pink paper links were sold by the team members for $1 each during a competition between the east and west bank. East bank, the team that sold the highest number of links and raised the most money for research, was announced the winner. The team won the competition by selling 9,151 links, whereas the west bank sold 9,136 links. During the project, about $18,287 was raised. The amount was donated to the American Cancer Society.

Besides the sale of pink links at high schools, the teams also went into the community for speaking to business owners regarding the donations. During the competition, all feeder schools took part.

Denise Robichaux, Health Career Exploration Facilitator at the St. Charles Parish Satellite Center, said that it was truly a community effort.

The winner of the competition was announced in late September, on the night of the Hahnville-Destrehan football game. During halftime in game, the pink link chains were pulled out along the sidelines of each team and placed together in the end zone, showing how the community of St. Charles Parish joined hands to support breast cancer.

Robichaux said, "No one fights cancer alone. I am so very proud of what my team members and the community of St. Charles Parish has done together".

"It was truly a community effort," said Denise Robichaux, Health Career Exploration Facilitator at the St. Charles Parish Satellite Center.
