Pervez Musharraf’s promises a positive sign: George W Bush

George W. BushCrawford, Nov 11 : US President George W Bush has said that Pervez Musharraf has taken "positive steps" by promising to lift the state of emergency, step down as Army Chief and hold elections.

"One country we need cooperation from is Pakistan," he said.

But, Bush added that he has confidence in the commitment of Pakistan’s leadership to stick with the US in fight against terror.

"We share a common goal," a foreign news agency quoted Bush, as saying.

Bush said that several al Qaeda leaders have been brought to justice "and that wouldn’t have happened without Musharraf honouring his word".

"I take a person for his word until otherwise. He made a clear decision to be with us and he’s acted on that advice," he added.

Bush also said that Musharraf knew that the US wanted him to end emergency rule and hold elections.

"He knows my position," Bush said. (ANI)
