The movie had been made in 1969, and as Sir Michael Caine spoke at the 2008 Visit London Awards, he revealed on the eve of the 40th anniversary of the film how producers had filmed the ending.

According to the 75-year-old actor, the movie ended with the gang of criminals escaping and the 4million-dollar cargo of gold tumbling into the ravine, and later being picked up by the rival Mafia gang.
