Zimbabwe seeks British aid against cholera

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Dec. 5  -- The Zimbabwean government has asked for British help in dealing with a cholera epidemic that has claimed hundreds of lives.

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, often blamed by President Robert Mugabe for Zimbabwe's economic free fall, responded by promising at least $15 million in assistance, The Times of London reported.

At least 570 people have died of cholera and 13,000 have become infected in recent weeks. Some of the sick have crossed into South Africa seeking medical care, the newspaper said.

The disease, spread by ingestion of contaminated food or water, can be prevented by proper sanitation.

UK says it’s too early to say anything about Mumbai terror strikes

He, however, said that the terrorists could be linked to another country.

“There is so much information still to be discovered and made available. I would not want to be drawn into early conclusions about this,” the Daily Times quoted Brown as saying while speaking to reporters.

Brown declines comment on alleged Mumbai role of Britons

Gordon BrownLondon - Prime Minister Gordon Brown Friday refused to be drawn on reports that British citizens of Pakistani origin could have been involved in the terrorism attacks in Mumbai.

Brown said he would talk to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the claim, made by local Indian channel NDTV. Singh has said that the terrorists who attacked the city were believed to have been based outside India.

"I would not want to be drawn into early conclusions about this," Brown said on Sky News.

Two-third Britons want troops out of Afghanistan within a year

gorden brownLondon , Nov 13 : At a time when pressure is mounting on the Gordon Brown government to increase the number of troops in Afghanistan, a new survey has found that two-third Britishers, mostly young, want withdrawal of troops from the war-torn country within a year.

The ICM poll of 1013 people, carried out for a BBC, found that 68 per cent of the people in the UL believe that UK troops should withdraw within 12 months. Among men the figure was 59 per cent while 75 per cent of women agreed with the statement.
