Don't let Patel operate, doctor warned colleaguesBrisbane, Feb. 20 : A senior doctor at Queensland's Bundaberg Base Hospital warned staff before he went on holidays that they shouldn''t let controversial Indian-born surgeon Dr. Jayant Patel perform operations.

Dr. Peter Miach told a Brisbane magistrate's court on Friday that he had suspicions about the quality of Dr Patel''s work after a general review showed the US-trained doctor botched every single catheter insertion he''d performed at Bundaberg Base Hospital.

Expert tells Brisbane court that Patel surgery ''inappropriate'', led to deathsBrisbane, Feb. 19 : Colo-rectal expert Brian Collopy told a Brisbane Magistrates Court today that controversial Indian-born surgeon Dr. Jayant Patel fell short of competent medical practice when he wrongly diagnosed and performed an unnecessary operation on a man who later died.

Bundaberg Base Hospital patient Mervyn Morris, 76, died in June 2003 after Dr Patel performed two operations to try to stop bleeding in his bowel.

Brisbane, Feb. 11 : Queensland Government officers failed to check a vital piece of information that may have prevented Indian-born Doctor Jayant Patel from being employed in Queensland, a court has been told.

Dr. Patel a. k. a. Dr. Death is facing 14 charges including three of manslaughter relating to his time as director of surgery at the Bundaberg Base Hospital between 2003 and
2005.

Ainslie McMullen was working as a low-level officer with the Health Practitioners Registration Board in early 2003 when Patel''s application came across her desk.

The Brisbane Magistrates Court today was told that on Dr Patel''s application was a note stating a public order had been made against the 58-year-old doctor in the US.

Queensland hospital chief says `Dr. Death’ appeared to be a "missionary"Brisbane (Australia), Feb. 10 (ANI): Dr. Kees Nydam, who was the administrator at Queensland's Bundaberg Hospital when controversial Indian-born surgeon Dr. Jayant Patel was hired, has said that the latter appeared to be a missionary, and therefore, was hired.

Nydam said the staffing situation when Patel joined the hospital was "chaotic" and he agreed with prosecutor Byrne that Patel could have been the only surgeon on call "day after day".
