Sri Lanka refuses entry to Swedish Foreign MinisterSri Lanka refuses entry to Swedish Foreign MinisterColombo, Apr. 28 : A day after declaring an end to the use of heavy artillery and aerial weaponry against the rebel Liberation of Tigers of Tamil Ealam (LTTE), the Government of Sri Lanka has refused entry to Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt.

Bildt was to have arrived in Colombo on Wednesday with British counterpart David Miliband and France''s Bernard Kouchner to assess the situation in northern Sri Lanka.

Writing on his blog, Bildt said Sri Lanka had "not given any reason" for not accepting him. "No one seems to understand the reason for this very strange action. Everyone just shakes their heads."

Swedish foreign minister to go to Georgia

Russia & GeorgiaStockholm - Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt on Monday joined the list of diplomats due to travel to Georgia in efforts to end fighting between Russia and Georgia over the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

Bildt, who currently holds the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the 47-nation Council of Europe, wrote on his personal blog that he was travelling Monday to Georgia with Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis.

Nordic ministers welcome arrest of Karadzic

Stockholm - Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt Tuesday welcomed the arrest of indicted Bosnian Serb war-crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic.

"This is very good news," Bildt said in a statement released by the foreign ministry, lauding the new Serbian government for showing its will "to live up to its international and European commitments."

Bildt said he hoped Karadzic will soon be brought to trial.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store attending talks in Geneva aimed at reviving the World Trade Organization's Doha Round also welcomed the news of the arrest.
