Abhinav Bindra flags off environment awareness rally in Jaipur

Abhinav BindraJaipur, Sept 19 : Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra flagged off a rally here today to spread environment awareness.

Around a thousand school children took part in the rally named ''Save Nature Rally-08, which was organised by a private television channel.

The rally started off from Sahid Samarag and concluded at Badi Choppad near Hawa Mahal, a distance of five kilometers

Talking to reporters, Bindra said preserving the environment is every citizen’s responsibility.

Sports Ministry announced that it will award Rs 50 lakh to shooter Abhinav Bindra Sports Ministry: Rs 50 Lakh To Abhinav Bindra during the Arjuna Awards ceremony on August 29.

Abhinav recently won the first-ever individual gold for India in the 10-metre air rifle event in Beijing Olympics.
 
In its statement, the Sports Ministry said that the ace shooter from Punjab will receive the award from President Pratibha Patil at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The government had enhanced the prize money from Rs. 30 lakhs to 50 lakhs, for gold medallists in the Olympics this time.

Coming in the back drop of Bindra’s medal winning performance, Dr. M. S. Gill, Sports Minister, spoke to Finance Minister P. Chidambaram and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for enhancing the prize money from Rs. 30 lakhs to 50 lakhs, for gold medallists in the Olympics.
