Patients to be able to compare treatments by doctors
Under a new proposal, patients will be able to compare the treatment give by doctors and nearby hospitals on a new website.
The important information, which is available on more than 4,000 separate NHS websites, will now be brought on a single page. The web page will allow patients to know how well their GPs perform, compared to others around them for treating conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma.
The page will allow patients to gain access to clinical outcomes for a range of operations by hospitals as well as feedback from other patients. The service is also planning to offer raw data to software developers so that the private parties use the data to develop applications for patients.
Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary pointed out that the patient records will also be available online within three years and that GP surgeries will allow patients to book and cancel appointments online. Mr Lansley said that together the moves would give individuals more "power" over their care. The move shows that the government is listening to the patient needs and is working towards addressing their concerns.
