Paes, Bhupathi to clash in men’s doubles final
Indian tennis stars Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi have ensured US Open men's doubles trophy for India as they will clash with each other in the final of the men's doubles event with their respective partners.
The third seeded pair of Bhupathi and Bahamian Mark Knowles will face fourth seeded duo of Paes and Czech Lukas Dlouhy in the men's doubles final. This will be first time in history of tennis that three times Grand Slam winner pair will play against each other in the Grand Slam final.
Bhupathi-Knowles duo ousted the fifth seeded pair of Belarussian Max Mirnyi and Israeli Andy Ram 6-4 6-2 in the semi-final. In the other semifinal, Paes and Dlouhy upset the top seeded pair of Mike and Bob Bryan 6-3 3-6 7-6 (8-6) to move to the title round.
Paes has also entered into the mixed doubles final with his partner Cara Black. However, Bhupathi and his partner Liezel Huber lost in the semifinal to local pair of Travis Parrot and Carly Gullickson 3-6 4-6.
