Online IPL - a hit in the Indian market

ipl-2010-live-online-freMany would have expected that the online venture of the much-popular T20 game may not prove to be dear one for the IPL management team as well as the online giants, but the success Google is enjoying with IPL proves the former claim a myth.

Started off with just 2 lakh viewers on March 11 the search giant has been able to bank a whopping 8 lakh viewers in the recent matches.

Be it Hero Honda, Airtel, HSBC Bank, HP, Coca Cola, Bangalore Royal Challengers and Samsung, all of them have signed up with sear major to leverage their brand equity from this innovative move.

However, with the increasing demand, the quality of streaming has been an issue as Google expected lower viewers from the mode but it is quickly ramping up the capacities. Though it was expected that the online streaming will garner many viewers from overseas markets due to connectivity issues but ironically, the most no. of viewers are coming in from India followed UK, Australia and US. In fact, the search giant has already started to look for various other formats where it can use its expertise to bank more revenues.
