Onion, Tomato prices remain relatively unchanged this week

Onion, Tomato prices remain relatively unchanged this weekThe retail price on Saturday for essential vegetable onions and tomatoes remained the same. The price of garlic though fell by up to Rs. 40 per Kg. The dip in the price of garlic largely was due to the increase in supplies. The public was however disappointed as the prices of onions tomatoes remained unchanged as they are essential ingredient of one's food.

The government is however of the view that the prices will start to dip even in these items once the late kharif crop will arrive in the markets and improve the supply. This will roughly take 20 days time.

In the 4 major cities of the country the price of onions hovered between Rs. 50 and Rs. 60 per kg. Tomato on the other hand was at Rs. 40 per kg. Garlic however which shown the most improvement of Rs 40 per Kg was available in Mumbai for Rs. 250 per Kg.

The dip was of Rs. 25 per kg and Rs. 10 per Kg. in Chennai and Kolkata respectively. The Delhi prices showed a decline as the stocks from hoarders were recovered thus improving the availability and responsible for decline in prices.
