ONGC All Set To Enter Nuclear Sector
Having achieved breakthrough in the Indo-Us Nuclear Deal, State owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is all set to enter the Nuclear Sector arena.
On this, ONGC Chairman-cum-Managing Director RS Sharma commented, “Nuclear and solar energy are clean fuels. We are carrying out research in this regard.” Owing to the paucity in the energy sector with hydrocarbon reserves in country accounting at 0.5 per cent of the total globally, oil and gas will not be the only alternatives to watch out for and the company seems to be interested in utilizing Solar energy. He further added that, “We have to look beyond oil and gas and work on nuclear, solar and gas hydrates.”
Sharma stood confident as he affirmed that ONGC is already producing 1.1 million barrels of oil equivalent (BOE). An official in ONGC added, Given the infrastructure and R&D facilities, ONGC can play a very big role in nuclear energy.
On the other hand Petroleum Minister, Mr Murli Deora gave consent to ONGC and Cairn India to set up a pipeline so as to transport crude oil from Barmer to Gujarat.
