Olympic Gold Medalist Bindra threatened with legal action
India's Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra has been drawn into the latest controversy as Collage Sports, which managed Bindra's endorsements before his Olympic Gold medal, has threatened to move court after their contract was terminated by the shooter. Collage Sports were associated with Bindra since 2003 and had contract till August 2009.
Bindra terminated the contract a year before its expiry and signed a new contract for his marketing rights with B Formula Entertainment.
Latika Khaneja of Collage Sports said "For five years I ran his account with no income. But a lot changed after his Olympic achievement. They started approaching clients because they do not want to share their money with anyone." According to Latika Khaneja, 30% of the endorsement money was supposed to be given to Collage Sports. Latika said, move by Bindra to terminate contract with her company was unethical and illegal and she has no other option but to seek legal recourse.
On the other hand, Bindra family source said, there was "nothing illegal" and Collage Sports are free to take legal recourse.
Bindra family said that the legal threat from Khaneja was a desperate move and was trying to piggyback on Bindra's Olympic success.
