Oliver All Tangled Up In Nineteen Nuptial Knots
In what seems to be a case of polygamy under wraps, the infamous bigamist Oliver Killeen, 71, turned himself in to the police yesterday.
According to police, Killen married a number of women in Ontario and other parts of the world, including Europe, but never got legally divorced from the prior spouse for any of the unions.
He was charged with a single count of bigamy and released on a promise to appear in court next month.
During an interview with the Star in 2006, Killeen admitted to his 19 forays into marriage out of which only the first one was legal. He had nine children with his first wife, Mary, who died in 1974. Apparently, that very year he married three more times.
Detective Rob Ermacora informed that the investigators were set off after one of Killeen's victims complained about him to police recently.
"We believe there may be more victims," said Ermacora. "We're asking them to contact us if they've been victimized by this individual. We want them to come forward and speak with us or call CrimeStoppers."
