Ohio zoo keeper on ventilator after elephant attack

Ohio zoo keeper on ventilator after elephant attackAccording to doctors, a keeper at an Ohio zoo who was knocked down by an elephant has punctures in both lungs, broken ribs and is on a ventilator.

The (Toledo) Blade further reported that Donald RedFox, 53, was in critical condition Tuesday at the University of Toledo Medical Center. He was injured by Louie, a 7-year-old African elephant, on Thursday.

Dr. Kris Brickman, head of emergency medicine, said, "His injuries are substantial. It's going to be a long road. He is clearly not out of the woods."

According to Brickman, RedFox has made some improvement but is likely to be in the hospital for weeks. Life-threatening complications are possible, he further said.

RedFox's wife Wanda is fighting to prevent the release of a videotape of the attack. A judge temporarily blocked the release Tuesday until a hearing July 20.

It has also been reported that Zoo officials say RedFox broke a rule when he entered Louie's enclosure alone. He had worked with the elephant since it was born. (With Inputs from Agencies)
