Office Depot Loss Narrows Sharply Amid Higher Margins
Office supply chain Office depot posted narrowed than expected loss during the quarter with the help of improving sales trends during the quarter.
During the fourth quarter of 2009 company reported net loss of 461.5 million against the loss of $1.54 billion for the same period of previous financial year. Revenue of the company declined by 6.3% during the quarter, over the same period of the previous financial year.
During the quarter company closed its underperforming stores as a cost cutting measure which helps it to enhance its operating revenue especially in the North America.
According to Chief Executive of the company Steve Odland, "We are seeing signs of economic stabilization, but we still remain cautious about the coming year."
Company reported narrowed loss during the quarter with the help of cost cutting and re-engineering measures taken by the company but it has to wait for long returning to profits due to increase in the low cost competitions.
