Obama orders Health Insurance Companies to cover all forms of Female Contraception

On Monday, the United States government told health insurance companies of the country that they have to cover all forms of female contraception. The Obama administration also stated that it must be done without imposing other charges.

Earlier, non-profit organizations, the National Women's Law Center and Kaiser Family Foundation, reported their findings which stated that insurers in the United States disobeyed a federal requirement to give free coverage of birth control to females under the government's Affordable Care Act.

While praising the latest decision of Obama administration, Senator Patty Murray, senior United States Senator from Washington, said it is good that insurers will cover all forms of female contraception.

Senator Patty Murray and Gretchen Borchelt, a vice president of the women's law center, said that the government has taken the right decision. Borchelt said that insurance companies across the country have been flouting the law from a long time. The Obama administration's decision has showed that it will not tolerate the violation. The notice by the government has showed that insurers have to cover all unique birth control methods for women, Borchelt added.

The Obama administration said insurance companies have to cover genetic testing and counseling for certain females who have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer. According to the administration, insurers should cover testing for mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes.

Katie Hill, spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services, said, "Insurers must cover preventive screening, genetic counseling and genetic testing without cost-sharing when an individual has a family cancer history associated with increased risk for BRCA-related cancer".

The new guidance by the administration has made clear that insurance companies must cover preventive services for transgender people.
