New York, Nov 23 : With most of the establishments facing the financial crunch, many have lost their jobs or are finding it difficult to hold on to the ones they have.

Such was the case with Sam Gallup, an out-of-work upstate miner who moved to Montana from New York, but only to be laid off again from his new job after working for 10 hours.

Gallup, 24, a mine worker had travelled 2,000 miles in the hopes of starting a new home, a new life and a new job, and being on the payroll of the Stillwater Mining Co.

“It''s kind of a dead-end situation,” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.

“Job security? There is none. Right now, I''m in the financial situation of losing everything,” he stated.

Gallup came to know that he had lost his new job on November 17th night after returning home from work. He was standing on the porch of a friend''s house in Billings, when he noticed a voice mail on his cell phone.

Listening to the recorded voice mail he came to know that he was out of work again.

“I was a little upset," he said in an even tone. "The fellow that called, he apologized several times, but that was it,” he said.

Gallup had in August been laid off by the St. Lawrence Zinc company in upstate New York, and he along with some of his co-workers were recruited by Stillwater.

“I packed up everything I owned in my car and drove out here,” he said from Montana.

“Took me three days. Then I drove two hours to work, two hours home, with a 10-hour shift between,” he added.

Though he’s flat broke, Gallup, according to his mother, Maryann, is keeping up a brave front and he is also very optimistic about the future.

“You''ve gotta keep your head up,” Gallup said.

“Life is a garden. You gotta dig it,” he added. (ANI)
