Now tyres will sport a BIS tag from October

Now tyres will sport a BIS tag from OctoberAs the Government has deferred its decision by another six months, it is now decided that the tyres sold in the Indian market will sport a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) tag from the month of October.

In fact, according to a government order, the tyres needed to comply with BIS from the month of April but as it has now decided to postpone the implementation by six months, the implications will now be applied from the month of October in the Indian market.

It may be note here that according to a notification issued by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion the pneumatic tyres and tubes for automotive vehicles (quality control) will now come into force from October.

Keeping in mind the fact that the tyre industry in the Indian market is valued close to Rs, 22,000 crore, the sale & distribution of tyres will not be allowed without the BIS certification in the time to come.

Moreover, the tyre prices have been on a rise fighting against the rising raw material costs that are used in the manufacturing of the final product in the Indian market.
