Novel DNA Repair Mechanism will Prevent and Treat Diseases in Future
Researchers of a new study said that DNA molecule is chemically not stable, which can cause DNA lesions. This condition leads to the requirement of DNA damage detection, signaling and repair. The researchers have found a way of DNA repair with which it will be easier to treat disease and prevent them in future.
Professor Vasily M Studitsky from Moscow State University has explained in the research paper than when DNA gets damaged then it requires repair. If it is not repaired, it can lead to accumulation of mutations, cell death and development of many diseases, like Alzheimer's.
Studitsky affirmed that in vitro and not in cell, they have shown that repair of DNA is possible. But when it comes to higher organisms then DNA is linked with proteins in complexes known as nucleosome.
"Every ~200 base pairs are organized in nucleosomes, consisting of eight histone proteins, which, like the thread on the bobbin, wound double helix of DNA, which is coiled into two supercoiled loops.", affirmed Studitsky while explaining the packing of genome.
The researchers studied the mechanism and carried out experiments. The study researchers said the analysis of breaks in different positions have allowed them to affirm that stalling of RNA polymerase takes place by the formation of loop that does not allow the movement of the enzyme.
The study findings have opened a new path for research on the topic of DNA repair. The study has helped in unveiling that the threat can be repaired without completely unwinding of DNA coils.
