Nomad Foods interested to acquire units of Findus Group for €800m

Nomad Foods has offered around _800m to acquire the Nordic and southern European units of Findus Group. Findus Group is one of Europe's biggest frozen food and seafood companies. Its headquarters are in the UK, where it runs the Young's Seafood business, which sells branded products and also supplies major UK grocers with private label seafood.

Nomad Foods closed a €2.6 billion deal for Iglo Foods on June 1. The move for Findus Group has progressed fast since the takeover of Iglo by Nomad.

On Thursday, Findus Group confirmed that the Nordic unit is also part of the talks, as well as the business in southern Europe.

Findus Group CEO James Hill met with union representatives Laurent Prevot from the French Confederation of Christian Workers (CFTC) and Patrick Merlin and French Democratic Confederation of Labor (CFDT). Both are set firm against a sale to Nomad and combination with Iglo.

Findus France unions are concerned that Nomad Foods, now owner of Iglo will put the future of the Boulogne plant at risk. Iglo has a large frozen fish processing plant in Bremerhaven, Germany, with excess capacity.

The unions are also unsure about the future of the Boulogne plant and the office in France. Hill said the unions need to talk with Nomad to know the future plan and business strategy.

The unions will also meet Friday with Emmanuel Macron, France's minister of economy and industry. The union said, "We want to see all the offers and the options. The target is to get a better way for the future than with Nomad. We are waiting for a support of the government".
