More than 50 million year ago, polar region Arctic was home to a giant, flightless bird, a team of researchers revealed in a new study. Researchers announced the discovery after identifying two ancient birds: Gastornis and Presbyornis. Both of them belong to extinct genus.

The new study proves that prehistoric Arctic was probably more similar to the southeastern United States than Alaska.

The team comprised researchers from the University of Colorado Boulder and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The discovery of both the birds is exciting, but Gastornis is the bigger find, as per the study published in the journal Scientific Reports.

Time has come to wave goodbye to history-making robotic lander Philae as last efforts to establish contact with the lander are unfortunately close to zero, announced the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on Friday.

Lifting a three-month health warning on eating Dungeness crab caught off the Bay Area coast, the California Department of Public Health Thursday declared the tasty crustaceans safe for consumption.

The state officials, as of now, have only permitted recreational crab fishing. The commercial crab fishing, it is learnt, may take at least a week for resumption, and that too if the state Department of Fish and Wildlife gives its approval.

The health advisory had delayed the beginning of the crab season since November. Still, people have been advised to remove the guts before cooking the crabs. Besides, the crabs must be boiled or steamed instead of being fried or broiled and the cooking water should be discarded, the health agency has said.

Last year, about 28,000 men in United States died of prostate cancer, and still there is no effective, non-invasive test to diagnose the disease. Now, British researchers have come up with a non-invasive diagnostic tool that can ‘smell’ prostate cancer in the urine of men.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the test could offer hope for African-American men or the ones having a family history of prostate cancer. The two groups are thought to be more vulnerable to the disease.
