Three detained for Majorca hotel collapse

Spain MapPalma de Majorca, Spain - Spanish police have detained three people in connection with the partial collapse of a hotel on the holiday island of Majorca, where four construction workers were killed in the accident, police said Wednesday.

The detainees included an architect, an overseer and a project chief. Police said they could be charged with homicide and with violating workers' rights.

Officials earlier said the company carrying out the repairs did not have a licence and had been ordered to stop the work on the hotel Son Moll in Cala Ratjada in the north-east of the island.

The three top floors of the 10-storey hotel collapsed during repair work on Tuesday. Two Spanish and two Moroccan workers were killed. The local authorities declared three days of mourning. (dpa)
