Fuel Surcharge Reduced By Rs 400: Jet
Jet Airways, and its subsidiary JetLite, the leading airlines of the country, have reduced the fuel surcharge by Rs 400 and Rs 300 per ticket, respectively, following a dip in the aviation fuel prices. Jet Airways- JetLite combined, run a fleet of 109 aircrafts.
Fuel surcharge for flying less than 750 km (under an hour), will now be Rs 1,950 instead of Rs 2,350. Other domestic routes will now have a fuel surcharge of Rs 2,700 instead of Rs 3,100. Kingfisher is the only Indian carrier that has not lowered the fares, following the massive fall in the aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices. Kingfisher chairman Vijay Mallya had recently said that the airline will lower the fares as soon as the government notifies ATF as declared goods, so that a uniform 4% sales tax is levied on it across the country. But with both partner Jet and AI cutting fares, Kingfisher may also be forced to lower the fuel surcharge in the coming days.
Aviation turbine fuel (ATF), which accounts for nearly 45% of an airline's operating costs, has seen a price drop of nearly 50% since August. The ATF prices hit a record high of Rs 73,673.56 a kilolitre in August. An aviation expert said that the higher fares have steered away the passengers. Airlines have increased fares five times since early this year, citing the soaring ATF prices. Civil aviation minister Praful Patel had asked the carriers to cut fares in response to the falling ATF prices.
