Tripura to have ATS
Tripura police has decided to set up a full-fledged anti terrorist squad (ATS). This is a move to counter the growing threat perception in the North-Eastern hilly state.
Two contingents of paramilitary, Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel would be sent to Delhi to undergo rigorous training in the elite National Security Guards (NSG) Centre in December and February next, an official told.
"The NSG authority has already agreed to train the selected TSR jawans in two batches", he said adding handling of high- power explosives and sniffer dogs and modern weapons would be focused during the training.
Around 50 TSR personnel were earlier trained in the NSG academy few years ago and they are now working in different battalions.
At the same time the state govt. has sent a proposal amounting Rs 23 crore to the Ministry of Home Affairs in connection with the modernization of state police.
